The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) welcomes the findings of the Senate Inquiry into the availability and accessibility of diagnostic imaging equipment, such as CT and MRI machines.
The Inquiry found that there are serious gaps in access to MRI as a result of policy and funding decisions by successive federal governments.
In its submission to the Inquiry, RANZCR called for the Federal Government to reduce out-of-pocket costs for patients and make changes to MRI eligibility to improve patient outcomes. This includes government investment to increase the number of MRI scanners eligible for Medicare rebates and expanding the types of medical conditions which are funded under Medicare rules.
