The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists has released its four yearly Workforce Census describing the New Zealand clinical radiologist workforce as of 2020.The Census shows a general shortage of clinical radiologists in New Zealand with a number of factors contributing to this: an ageing population with an increase of chronic disease, technological developments, the expanding role of medical imaging in diagnosis and treatments, the increasing use of and reliance on medical imaging by doctors, increasing after-hours demand, increasing subspecialisation of the referral workforce and the medical graduate output rates.
