RANZCR Grants, Awards, and Fellowships for 2025: Applications open

Applications are now open for RANZCR research awards, prizes and grants for 2025. A variety of research awards, prizes and grants are available to support research projects and foster a culture of research at the College.

Grants and Prizes

RANZCR Research Grants

RANZCR Research Grants provide financial support for College members to gain valuable research experience. A number of grants are available and are awarded for sums between AU$5,000 and AU$30,000.

Indigenous Health Research Prize

This AU$2,000 prize will be awarded in the case of high-quality research in Indigenous Health being published in a peer-reviewed journal.

Annual Indigenous Scholarship

Up to six individual scholarships of up to AU$5,000 are available each year, to be used towards educational activities for doctors who identify as being either of Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander or Māori heritage.

Quality Improvement Project Prize

This AU$2,000 prize will be awarded in the case of high-quality research in quality improvement in radiation oncology being published in a peer-reviewed journal.

Bourne and Langlands Prize

The Faculty of Radiation Oncology awards a prize of AU$2,000 to a radiation oncology trainee who has produced an exceptional trainee research requirement manuscript.

Withers and Peters Grant

This AU$25,000 grant supports trainees post-Phase 2 exams to carry out significant research projects.

Clinical Radiology Early Career Researchers Prize

Are you a clinical radiology trainee or junior Fellow, and the first author of a paper which has been accepted for publication by the Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Oncology (JMIRO) or another Medline Indexed peer-reviewed journal? You could win this prize of AU$1,500 in recognition of your achievement.

Educational Fellowships

Windeyer Fellowship

This is a 12-month position for Fellows up to two years post-Fellowship or trainees post-Phase 2 exams that provides clinical research opportunities at the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre in the United Kingdom. The position is under the broad supervision of Professor Peter Hoskin.

Bill Hare Fellowship

This Fellowship supports a Fellow more than five years post-Fellowship for a period of intensive or overseas study (three to 12 months) or for attendance at an international short course (two weeks to one month) with a grant of AU$30,000. Previous applicants have used the grant to attend courses in London, Vienna and Boston.

Thomas Baker Fellowship

This Fellowship enables a clinical radiology or radiation oncology member up to six years post-Fellowship to further their knowledge by studying abroad for between three and 12 months. It is supported by a grant of AU$20,000 from The Baker Foundation.

Rouse Travelling Fellowship

In 2025 this Fellowship is available for a clinical radiology Fellow (more than five years post-Fellowship) from New Zealand to attend the 2025 Australia Annual Scientific Meeting. The Fellow is also expected to visit and present in their field of interest in three training centres in New Zealand, with the support of an AU$8,000 grant.

International Funding Opportunities

International Development Fund

The RANZCR International Development Fund provides small grants for overseas development work undertaken by College members or College groups that will improve patient care and raise the standard of practice in both disciplines.

Do you have a colleague who you think has made a valuable contribution to the College and/or the profession? You can recognise them by nominating them for a College Honour.

College Honours

Gold Medal

The Gold Medal honours a Fellow who has rendered outstanding service or benefactions to the College or its professions.

Roentgen Medal

For Fellows who have made a very valuable contribution to the College over a significant period of time.

Denise Lonergan Educational Service Award

This award recognises members who have demonstrated outstanding long-term commitment, participation and leadership in training and education in radiation oncology.

Clinical Radiology Educational Service Award

This award recognises members who have demonstrated outstanding long-term commitment, participation and leadership in training and education in clinical radiology.

Life Membership

For Fellows over the age of 65 who have made an unusually significant contribution to their field or the College.

Honorary Fellowship

For colleagues outside clinical radiology who have significantly supported the advancement of clinical radiology and allied sciences.

Sally Crossing Award for Consumer Advocacy

This award acknowledges outstanding commitment of consumers involved in health care advocacy. It honours the late memory of Sally Crossing AM, in recognition of her exceptional contributions to advocating for cancer patients.

RANZCR Community Services Award

This award acknowledges individuals whose contributions have had a significant positive impact on their community and/or society more broadly, either within or outside the fields of clinical radiology or radiation oncology.
