We are excited to announce that Li Cunxin AO is the Nisbet Orator of the 73rd RANZCR Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) where he will be sharing his inspirational story and life journey at the opening session at the Brisbane Exhibition and Convention Centre in October.
Li is a remarkable man with a remarkable story. It is a unique story that recounts his determination, perseverance, passion, integrity and love, following his journey from poverty-stricken Communist China to the USA and beyond. Now a proud Queenslander and a loving family man, previously an internationally acclaimed ballet dancer and a visionary artistic director, Li joins the Nisbet Oration Hall of Fame to share his heart-warming story with us at the ASM.
“It is my honour to speak as the Nisbet Orator of the 73rd RANZCR Annual Scientific Meeting. I’ve spent the majority of my life in performing arts across different countries, and the idea of Beyond has always inspired me to be better and to go further without limitations, which I believe is also what this year’s ASM aims to achieve. I’m excited to welcome the radiology and radiation oncology professional community to Brisbane which I now call home as a proud Queenslander,” said Li Cunxin AO.
Li is author of the bestselling autobiography Mao’s Last Dancer and also the subject of an award-winning film of the same name. Now in the 57th print, the book has been published and sold in over 20 countries, winning the Book of the Year Award in Australia and the Christopher Award for literature in the USA.
Li was named Australian Father of the Year in 2009 and his other accolades include Queensland Australian of the Year 2014 and the Asia Society’s Game Changer Award 2015. He was awarded the Queen’s AO Honour for his distinguished service and contribution to arts and ballet. During his tenure as Artistic Director of Queensland Ballet, Li transformed it from a laggard in the performing arts industry to a world-renowned ballet company.
Li is a living example of overcoming adversity and achieving excellence in life. His journey is also a success story of the wonderful cultural diversity we enjoy today in Australia.
